Basement Ceiling Painting in Lancaster, NY Spraying a basement ceiling is something that we are doing more of. Takes a bit of preparation due to the nature of painting the ceiling. All can lights, pendent lights, smoke detectors, shut-off valves ect need to be covered. Plastic and tape from the ceiling to the floor. Anything not being painted must be covered. This particular job required 4 rolls of green and blue tape. The easiest and fastest way to paint a basement ceiling is to spray it with an airless sprayer. It takes paint (Dryfall) that has the consistency of pancake batter, atomizes it and sprays it onto the surface.  When doing black, we will often do 2-3 coats due to the inability to see. We use lots of light, however you always get holidays (skips). We have learned through experience, its best to do multiple coats over multiple days to ensure we get uniform coverage, with out the drips. If you apply too much paint, it will begin to sag, run and drip (bad) When we are doing a

Basement Painting Akron, NY  We painted the ceiling in the basement of this home back in October of 2023: Basement Ceiling Painters We pole sanded the walls, and then applied (2) coats of paint to the walls, and (2) coats of paint to the white trim in the two basement rooms and the stairwell leading down to the basement There was a white patch on this wall. Typically when painting with shades of red, grey primer is recommended due to the amount of dye in the paint. However, Behr Dynasty continues to impress. It covered fresh drywall compound in 3 coats. Sherwin and Benjamin Moore do not have a product that can compete! First coat: Second Coat: Third coat: 100% covered. Sometimes its tough to remember to get pictures. I thought we had more. This basement has seen a lot of work done to it.  If you would like to get a free quote on painting your basement, give us a call: 716-697-3560 Carrigan Painting

Water leak?: How much to cause ceiling damage? A test  Started February 18, 2024 So my curiosity, I want to know how much water it takes to create a water stain, and damage to a plaster ceiling. So using some debris from a recent plaster job, I have a fairly large piece of plaster- 2x3' its rocklath, plaster base, finish and its been painted multiple times over the last 75 years. So I set this up, and started with a table spoon of water on the back side to simulate a water leak.  2/18/24:  1 Teaspoon of water 8 hours later: 2/19/24: So 1 teaspoon didn't do anything. So I tried a new spot, with tablespoons. This is day 2- different spot, I dripped 2 table spoons of water onto this spot. The 2nd tablespoon is still puddled and wet the next day. I will see what this looks like when I get home from work. So far no staining on the other side of piece.  Some notable observations: Water beads up on the back side of the rocklath, and it takes a long time for the water to soak into the

Maximizing Your Investment: Pre-Move-In Interior Painting By Dave Carrigan Amidst the excitement, there's a practical considerations often overlooked: the opportunity to undertake interior work before officially moving in. Not only can this save you money, but it also streamlines the process. Planning Ahead: The Key to Efficiency One of the first steps in this process is obtaining bids from local painting companies. Getting your ducks in a row is crucial. Realtors often provide photographs of homes on the market to entice potential buyers. These images serve a dual purpose—they can also be utilized by contractors to formulate preliminary bids. Thus, initiating the bidding process early offers insights into the potential costs involved, providing clarity and enabling better planning for all involved. We can usually squeeze in a job if given advanced notice. Timing is Important  When a house is empty, interior painting becomes notably more efficient. Without the presence of furniture

Water Damage Repair  Communication between all parties is critical If your having repair work done on your home, make sure everyone is on the same page. Do not assume. We were contracted to repair some water damage to a wall. We were hired by a local plumber (warranty work on their part) However the homeowner wrongly assumed that we would be opening the wall to look for mold.  Oops! So we had to go back and open the wall so everyone could confirm there is no mold - We offer NO mold mitigation! Then we re-patched the much bigger hole. Update: 2/21/24: We primed with PPG Gripper and painted the wall with a Sherwin sample, which is super-paint satin, for $12 vs $30 for a quart: Drywall Repair by Carrigan Painting

Wallpaper Removal & Drywall Repair & Painting We removed the wallpaper from the walls, and then washed the walls then pole sanded the walls and ceiling. After we primed the walls and spot primed water stains on the ceiling with oil primer.  Skim coating is often needed Lots of patching. Whoever did the finishing work 25 years ago, didn't do a very good job, so all the seems in the drywall had to be re-coated. We couldn't leave it like it was. So since we were there, we decided to just go ahead and fix it. I am glad we did, as it resulted in a much nicer finished product! We use a product called Dust Control by USG , which cuts down on the air born dust significantly. Once the patching is completed, we prime all of our patch work with oil primer. Using oil primer, seals the patches, so that they don't degrade the sheen of the top coat. It also prevents any possible staining from coming through the top coat as well. Proper Prep Leads to the Best Results We also primed
