Today we started this project by Harris Hill and Main St in Clarence. They suffered a water leak due to an ice dam. The homeowner began seeing water dripping from the ceiling, poked a bunch of holes in the ceiling and let the water out. This prevented the damage from being much more severe. The kitchen ceiling had undergone extensive work about 15 years ago, where they used a lot of drywall compound to get the ceiling flat.
However once water began leaking in and dripping off the ceiling, the drywall compound, corroded under the latex ceiling paint and created some very ugly looking damage. Thankfully it was largely superficial.
Patching
After the water damaged drywall compound was removed, and we were back to sound substrate, we patched the areas using durabond drywall compound.
The water travelled along this beam, dripping off as it travelled and impacted this back corner of the kitchen. So we repaired all of that damage as well, and then repainted the corner, and the beam.
The rest of the photos are the finished photos of the repairs that were completed. After sanding the patches, we primed everything with oil base primer (Sherwin Williams Problock HS Oil). Then we applied two coats of paint to the kitchen ceiling, and the dining room ceiling.
Interesting situation occurring in this stairwell. When the basement door leading to the garage is opened, the door impacts the ceiling in the stairwell. Well the hole has been fixed multiple times, and it keeps coming back. So I suggested a little piece of wood over the hole, and then paint the ceiling.

The dining room ceiling wasn’t originally included, but, because it too suffered damage that had to be repaired, we painted that as well, at no additional cost to the homeowner.
