Water Damaged Plaster Repair – WNY

When it comes to water damaged plaster repair, the scope of the damage can be much larger than it appears due to the manner in which plaster is installed – layering materials to produce a uniform durable surface. But if a water leak happens, these layers often separate, and it takes a trained eye to judge how much separation has occurred. And even then we some times get it wrong.

This client texted us on Sunday (12/14), but he is way out in Angola, so Ms. Stacy (our Project Manager) volunteered to take on this project herself since she lives in South Buffalo.

The main area is in the living room, and a smaller area of water damage on a wall in a closet.

Most of the finish coat of plaster (the white part) came off with relative ease, and she did have to do some minor chipping to remove some stubborn efflorescence. She then back filled the wall patch with plaster finish, as it doesn’t shrink like drywall compound, and then will skim coat it.

She did a nice job in the closet. Working with plaster, and drywall knives, takes finesse.

The living room ceiling, is coming along nicely, however a small hole developed which will be repaired using a small piece of blueboard and plaster basecoat.
