Working in Barker NY for the next few days doing some much needed interior painting in a very well maintained 20 year old home on Lake Ontario. We are fixing a bathroom ceiling, repainting a bedroom, and repainting the biggest walls in the home.

Bedroom Painting

We started with the bedroom, they cleared the room for us prior to our arrival. This makes setup so much easier for us as we don’t have to navigate around furniture.

The homeowner removed the wallpaper border. After taping off the chair-rail, we pole sanded the walls and ceiling, then we primed the area where the border used to be to prevent any problems.

While we were waiting for the primer to dry, we cut and rolled the ceiling. After that, we cut and rolled the walls once. One wall is an accent wall. We are using Behr Dynasty. The coverage of this paint is simply amazing.

After the walls were dry, we went back and did our patching, which was very minor. These areas will be sanded, spot primed, and then painted.

Day 2:

On day 2, we sanded the patches from the previous day, pole sanded the walls, and then spot primed the patches with a dedicated oil primer. This ensures the absorption rate between the patch and the surrounding substrate is the same. This help prevent flashing, especially given that the chosen sheen is satin, with a dark color.. Fun.

After the priming was done, we cut and rolled the walls one more time. The accent wall, was not cooperating so we ended up painting that wall two more times because it didn’t look right with the raking light from the windows.

Bathroom Ceiling Repair and Painting

The shower ceiling of the master bathroom was degraded due to tile cleaner, which destroyed the paint, so to repair the ceiling, we scraped, sanded, and primed the area with an oil base primer, and then top coated with two coats of bathroom ceiling paint. Lesson learned- Don’t use tile cleaner on painted surfaces.

Due to floor to ceiling tile, we hung plastic floor to ceiling.

After the repairs were completed, on the third day, we painted the bathroom:

Foyer Wall Painting

And we did the biggest wall in the house – the foyer

The majority of our projects involve indoor painting, since we specialize in ceiling repairs, we often repaint affected rooms after the repairs are completed. While the main focus of this job was painting, it was a nice break from all the repair work we have been doing over the last few weeks.

A fun project, but a long drive for Ms Stacy. I was a little concerned that the Behr Dynasty wouldn’t cover given the colors that we were working with, but Dynasty didn’t disappoint! Two coats covered the walls in that bedroom. The issue we had was more to do with the sheen, roller marks and critical light creating weirdness.
