We were called to repair some water damage to a living room plaster ceiling in Amherst NY. The water came through the ceiling at a previously repaired crack, and then pealed off the ceiling paint. It looks much worse than it is. We removed the pealing ceiling paint, and opened up the previously repaired cracks since they weren’t fixed correctly the first time, and then patched, spot primed, and painted the ceiling.
The reason we did not make a box, is because the wood beams, are actually painted foam. They’re fake, and we were afraid of damaging them.
The ceiling was originally painted with semigloss, with the beams. We repainted the ceiling flat white, and left the beams in semigloss.

Carrigan Painting was founded in 2010 in Amherst, NY by a third-generation plasterer and painter. Our company specializes in residential repaints and substrate repairs. The Carrigan Archives is organized by service and by town, reflecting both the range of work performed and the areas served. It currently includes over 125 case studies and more than 2,200 project photos which are located with in their respective case studies.
The Carrigan Archives was created as a way to document our work outside of social media. What began as a simple portfolio has grown into the largest collection of project photos and case studies focused on interior painting, ceiling repair, and drywall and plaster repair, ever created in Western New York. The Carrigan Archives is actively maintained and reflects actual jobs, not staged examples or stock imagery.
Most projects are documented from start to finish by Dave Carrigan Jr. and my staff to give homeowners the context needed to evaluate professional workmanship before hiring a contractor. The focus is transparency: how problems are identified, how repairs are approached, and the level of care applied throughout the process.
