At Carrigan Painting, we are one of only a handful of companies in Buffalo NY that still offer professional Popcorn Ceiling Repair. I say professional, because the equipment required for this type of work is large and expensive. When it comes to repairing popcorn ceiling texture, you can not duplicate the texture using a big box store popcorn in a can. Its like expecting oatmeal and getting cream of wheat.
We begin by addressing the under lying damage first. In this case, a water leak around a skylight. (spoiler alert- most skylights leak). We forgot to take “after repair” photos before we left on Friday, but when we go back tomorrow (Monday) we will be sure to get more photos.

The Previous Ceiling Repair
This area has been repaired before. Who ever did the previous repair did a nice job on texture matching, but installed the mesh tape incorrectly. Notice there is no mud under the tape? A common mistake in the painting industry, few know how to install fiberglass mesh tape correctly. You apply mud first, then lay the mesh tape into the wet mud. Most people wrongly assume that the mud will go through the holes (which it will) and then magically connect on the other side (which it wont).
