West Seneca Interior Painting with Problem Ceilings

West Seneca Interior Painting with Problem Ceilings

We have worked on this home before, where the homeowners had problems with their living room ceiling, and called us in an attempt to fix the ceiling, with out the need to replace the ceiling. We did that last fall. This year we are back to repaint the entirety of the first floor – walls and ceilings. Things were going good, until we got to the ceiling in the library and the kitchen.

The walls and ceilings were repainted using Behr Dynasty on the walls, and Behr ceiling paint. The walls and some ceilings received two coats of paint. However the kitchen ceiling was painted 5 times, and the library ceiling painted 7 times. At this point, its our professional opinion that at this stage, the only way to fix these two ceilings if problems continue, is to install new ceilings.

The issue was bubbles, and roller lint. The library was the worst for bubbles, and the kitchen ceiling was the worst for lint. Because the ceiling in the kitchen is semi-gloss, every imperfection shows. All paint was strained, using brand new brushes, rollers and pans, and even after using 5 different rollers, using a foam roller was our last resort option. And while even that didn’t deliver the expected perfect results, there are no options left. Plus, every coat of paint, runs the risk of bubbles. Plus, you can not paint a ceiling half a dozen times in such a short period of time and not risk de-lamination issues with the previous coats of paint. It was a very challenging situation.

The library ceiling, every coat of paint caused bubbles. Our final process seemed to have worked. Pink stuff, oil primer, ceiling paint. However we informed the homeowner, that we have exhausted the capabilities of coatings, and if bubbles, check cracking, or peel-age occurs at a later date, the only option left is to hang a new ceiling.

We also discovered these problem ceilings, previously had popcorn ceiling texture which was removed about 10 years prior. I wrote about that, because we are beginning to see issues with ceilings that previously had popcorn texture, which was removed.

This was not an easy job.
