We began this project before Christmas and did the repair work so the plaster patches could dry over the Christmas break. We are repainting the entire home. Doors, trim, walls and ceilings. A fun project encompassing plaster repair, drywall repair, painting and spray painting.
There are homes, and then there are works of art. The project we have started falls firmly into the latter category. Built with cement-based plaster and adorned with some of the most ornate ceilings, cornices, and medallions we’ve seen in a long time, this home is a craftsman’s dream. Over the coming weeks, we’ll be breathing new life into its stunning details, making its unique features pop. Alongside the painting, we’re repairing both plaster and drywall, and adding a fresh finish to the natural wood trim in a modern addition.
Painting the decorative plaster ceilings is a project in itself. Due to the ornate nature of the crown molding, spraying it is the best way to ensure excellent coverage of all the details while also avoiding drips and sags. The following slide show shows photos of that process. The video below is a time lapse of spraying the first coat on the crown. We sprayed the decorative plaster in 3 of the 4 rooms.
Here is a short video of us spray painting the decorative crown in the living room. This is the fastest, easiest and more efficient way to paint this type of plaster crown molding.
