At Carrigan Painting we specialize in ceiling repairs. We do the whole job from the demo to the painting. Because we paint the majority of our repairs, we see the finished results which has given us the unique opportunity to refine our methods to be able to provide the most seemless results possible.
Some local companies only do the repair, and over half of the painters do not offer drywall repair services. For over 15 years we have been repairing ceilings all over Western New York. Both drywall and plaster.
We were called in to repair a large hole, in one of the largest ceilings we have done to date. We get done with the repair on Friday, allow it to dry over the week end, only to be presented with new water stains on Monday! Yikes!
We believe the leak is somewhere in the shower, possibly the grout. We know it’s not something we did because its leaking outside the patched area!
So we decided to just go ahead and paint the ceiling, and we will leave enough paint for the homeowner, so when we come back to fix the new hole(s), all we have to do is touch up the ceiling instead of repainting the entire ceiling again!
Stacy decided to dig into it a little bit, so see how wet it is, its pretty wet. The paper tape from when the ceiling was finished originally just pealed off with out much effort! Uh oh.
Tomorrow we will see what the situation is, we may just patch that area for the time being, so it doesn’t look so bad for the holidays. However the source of the leak still remains unknown.
Tomorrow has arrived. No more water leakage that we can tell, so we decided to just go ahead an finish the patch, and fix the area we dug into the day before. We then spot primed the area with oil base primer, and then painted the ceiling twice.
The photos only show half the ceiling. This is a “forever ceiling” as there are no breaks between the living room, kitchen, dining room, mud room, or eating area. It is all one gigantic ceiling.

Here is a short video Stacy patching a smaller patch on the same ceiling:
We have begun using moisture resistance / mold resistant drywall for our patches. That is why its green. If it leaked once… Plus if it does leak again, the drywall is mold resistant. Its the same drywall that is used in bathrooms.
