I started using the company blog about 8 months ago, which was hosted on blogspot. I have tried everything imaginable to integrate the blog into our main website. However in order to do that requires a re-write of the main website. After spending tons of time creating content for the website (all written by me, the owner), that is not something I am prepared to do. So instead, I redid the blog.
The new blog is self hosted, which allows for complete control over both the layout, look and feel of the blog. This upgrade has also allowed me to vastly improve the portfolio aspects of the overall website.
The newest additions (photo heavy) are broken down by location along with some additional information.
- Interior Painting – not finished
- Exterior Painting – not finished
- Plaster Repair – almost finished
Navigation is pretty straight forward, and if your on a desktop computer, the blog is organized by the service on the right, or by the town. If your looking for something specific there is also the search function. I haven’t used it much my self but its there.
Update was Needed
Adding large amounts of photos to our website is a very tedious process. As every photo must be manually resized both in physical size, and display size. So the photo looks right on the web, as well as downloads quickly for mobile devices. Then each photo must be manually linked using code. Figure about 15 minutes per photo. Below is just two pictures on our main portfolio page on the main website. There are over 60 photos on the main website.

Where as the new blog platform I can add hundreds of photos in 15 minutes as seen with the new portfolio pages. I have a couple more to make, and finish the ones I have. But the blog will be continued to be updated with actual content.
The main menu breaks down like this:
The Archives
This page contains all posts posted to the blog. With out pictures, if your looking for a slimmed down version of our blog, that is the place to go!
Photos
Lots of good pictures of actual work. None of our pictures are stock photos. We create amazing work every day, why would we need stock photos to show off what we can do?
Services (at the top)
These are blog posts that line up with our service pages on the main site. For instance interior painting on our main site talks about our service – interior painting, but on the blog, it links to all interior painting jobs we have done, with lots of pictures. Pick a category!
Services (at the bottom)
The links at the bottom link to the actual service pages which talks about the actual service. Each of our service pages range between 1500 – 5,000 words written by me. AI was not used.
CP Home
This is the link back to our main website.
About our blog
This page is tucked in under photos, but explains in a little more detail my crash course in web development – from someone with zero experience.
More to come,
I would rather do the work, than write about it
